Hemp growers hit by hail likely don't have crop insurance
Central Oregon hemp production lost an estimated $25 million due to hail storms this summer, but not many hemp farmers carry crop insurance because it was just legalized by the federal government last year. "On an individual basis it's devastating, but from an industry standpoint it will have no impact on the market," said Matt Cyrus, president of Deschutes County Farm Bureau, of the storms' impact on the national market.

North of the equator, it was the hottest summer on record
The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration reports that June through August of this year stands as the hottest summer on record for the Northern Hemisphere, with temperature increases starting at 2.7 degrees Fahrenheit. This period also marked the second-hottest summer recorded worldwide.

Analysis: ARC, PLC slightly modified by 2018 Farm Bill
Enrollment has opened for Agriculture Risk Coverage and Price Loss Coverage for 2019 crops, programs that will be slightly modified by the 2018 Farm Bill, according to the USDA's Farm Service Agency. Steve Johnson analyzes farmers' options, noting they have until March 15 to choose a program.
